SILVER
House your jewels in a jewellery box or alternative dark storage such as a pouch. Air and light will cause silver to tarnish over time.
Avoid your jewellery rubbing against other jewellery as this can cause surface scratches- this applies to all jewellery pieces.
Avoid over use of a silver dip as it is corrosive.
Use only the softest fabric, ideally a silver cloth, to buff your silver. Even a tissue can cause scratching if used too vigorously.
PEARLS
Pearls, the only gem to be created by a living organism, require a little special care to keep them looking their best. Never expose pearls or gemstones to a silver dip.
The surface of pearls can be easily scratched. Storing pearl jewellery in soft pouches or bags, will protect the pearls from damage.
Pearls also absorb oils and moisture - so it is always a good idea to avoid contact with sunscreen, moisturizers, and perfumes- put your pearls on after your have applied your makeup and perfume.
Wiping the pearls with a soft cloth prior to putting them away after wearing will ensure that they keep their gentle lustre and beautiful colour. The cloth can be dampened with water or it can be dry. If damp, allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away.
Dirty pearls can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution.
All of our pearls are knotted on twin silk - as in time the thread can stretch and become soiled, it is a good idea to have pearls restrung every one or two years, depending on frequency of wear. If pearls aren't worn for a while, they enjoy being exposed to the humidity provided by a steamy bathroom once in a while - they really don't like to be dried out!
